Former U.S. Senate Candidate's Winnetka Mansion Gets Another Price Cut

A 22-room French Regency-style Winnetka mansion owned by former U.S. Senate candidate and Chicago-based attorney Al Hofeld has seen its second price reduction in less than a year.

Originally on the market for $9.4 million a few years ago, the century-plus old but thoroughly modern residence that boasts an indoor basketball court, pool house and cabana is now at $6.5 million, Curbed Chicago reports.

Less than a year ago, the home was re listed from its original price to $7.9 million, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hofeld, who attended Northwestern University Law School, was a candidate in the 1992 U.S. Senate Democratic Primary in Illinois, coming in third with 18 percent of the vote behind eventual nominee Carol Moseley-Braun and then-incumbent Alan J. Dixon.

In a campaign interview that year with the Chicago Review, Hofeld touched on his connection with the North Shore, which included a stint as president of the Young Democrats in Evanston and running Paul Simon’s 1972 gubernatorial campaign in Evanston.
