Home Sales Up 13.1% in Evanston So Far This Year

Prices have also increased compared to the same period last year, from a median sale price of $450,000 in October 2012 to $461,000 in October 2013.

Home sales are up 13.1 percent this year as compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors.

The association reports that 415 detached single-family homes were sold in Evanston from Jan. 1 through the end of October, up from the 367 detached single-family homes sold year-to-date by October 2012.

Median sale price also saw a slight uptick, from $450,000 in October 2012 to $461,000 in October 2013, a 2.4 percent increase. 

Overall, year-to-date home sales have already exceeded 2012 figures. By the end of October 2012, markets represented by the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors (NSBAR) had seen 4,478 detached home sales, as compared to 4,408 units sold by the end of 2012. 

“Steady sales have been driven by committed buyers looking to capitalize on this opportune market to buy,” realtor and NSBAR president Jim Votanek said in a release. 

While the figures in Evanston are improving, other North Shore suburbs saw higher increases in home sales. Lake Forest home sales were up 45 percent year-to-date in 2013 as compared to 2012, while home sales in Golf and Glenview increased 24.2 percent.
