EVANSTON, IL - The historically significant Evanston home that moved from Wilmette last year is on the market.

Various listings, including one on Realtor.com, show the John Van Bergen-designed home at 2771 Crawford Ave. as for sale for $625,000.

If Van Bergen were to come back to life to read about his home today, he’d be surprised at the address. Because that’s not where it was built. The home sat in Wilmette for decades, before it was moved in three sections to a lot near where Whole Foods now sits at the border of the two communities on Green Bay Road.

According to Evanston Now, the home was recently purchased by architect Chris Enck for $10, who paid to have it moved from Wilmette to the property he also had to purchase on Central Street.

Chris and his wife, Martha first had their eyes on the home in Wilmette years ago, but it wasn't the right fit at the time according to Eileen Campbell, the broker representing the property. But when the home was in danger of being done away with, the Encks stepped up to the plate and purchased the architecturally-significant abode.

"I love how the house was situated on the current lot to catch the afternoon sun through the two-story windows in the great room," Campbell said of the home. "Had the house been oriented in a different direction, those windows would not have caught as much sun."
