Man Arrested After Firing Gun, Fleeing Into House: Police
Police took a man into custody Tuesday afternoon after he barricaded himself in a home on Dodge Avenue.
EVANSTON, IL — A man fired a gun before barricading himself inside a home for more than two hours before being taken into custody Tuesday in Evanston, police said.
Officers were called to the 1800 block of Doge Avenue around noon for a report of a man with a gun, according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew.
When they arrived, police were told a man had just fired a gun at another person during an argument and fled into a nearby house, Glew said.

"He's believed to be associated with that residence," Glew said. "We don't think he did a home invasion at this point."
Officers were not immediately certain whether anyone else is in the home, he said. Police later determined the gunman was alone at the time.

Police evacuated some nearby houses and asked the public to avoid the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Dodge Avenue.
"We believe that the suspect is contained in the residence, we're securing the area," Glew said.
As of about 1:45 p.m., the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System's suburban SWAT team was on its way to the scene, according to Glew. Police knew the identity of the suspect, he said, but had not yet found the gun.

The man was taken into custody around 2:30 p.m., according to police. His identity was not immediately available. Officers were due to remain in the area to continue the investigation into the shooting.
