Metra Train Fatally Strikes Northfield Man In Evanston
The 30-year-old was struck and killed by a Metra train Friday evening at Lake Street and Sherman Avenue.

EVANSTON, IL — A train fatally struck a pedestrian Friday in Evanston, leading to heavy delays on the Union Pacific North line on the evening commute, according to railroad and fire department officials. The outbound train hit the person just before 4:54 p.m. south of the Davis Street station.
Both directions of the UP-N line were halted and remained stopped for more than two hours. The Evanston Fire Department was called to the incident at Sherman Avenue and Lake Street and asked the public to avoid the area.
Train No. 337 to Highland Park had been due to arrive at 5:10 p.m. It was cleared to travel to Davis Street shortly after 7 p.m. Metra announced the CTA Red, Brown and Purple lines would no longer honor its tickets around 7:30 p.m.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the fatality as 30-year-old Jonathan Schneider, of Northfield, and ruled his death to be a suicide.
