New Prairie Moon Rising In Evanston
Four months after shuttering its Sherman Avenue location, the new Prairie Moon hosts a grand opening Sept. 28.
EVANSTON, IL - From Prairie Moon Restaurant: After four months of closure, Prairie Moon has reopened in downtown Evanston at 1635 Chicago Avenue. It will celebrate with a grand opening party on Friday, September 28. There is no admission charge. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant at 847-864-8328. The restaurant closed its original location due to a major property development on Sherman Avenue in Evanston.
The grand opening will feature the restaurant’s new menu, plus a “greatest hits” menu including customer favorites of the past 15 years.
Temperance Beer Company and Sketchbook Brewing, both Evanston-based breweries, will have giveaways and specially priced beer. Sketchbook also has a new pale ale called “Moonrise” brewed exclusively for and only available at Prairie Moon and at Sketchbook’s taproom.

DJ music featuring DJ Tee-bot and guests will start spinning at 9pm. Other grand opening specials include: free slices of Tony’s Red Velvet Cake and a Champagne Cheers at 11pm. There is also an unsubstantiated rumor that someone is making balloon animals.

Prairie Moon opened in 2002 and has been a local favorite known for its regional American fare and a commitment to small batch cooking and brewing. The new location at 1635 Chicago Ave. is slightly smaller but has a similar feel as the old location. “We tried to make it as familiar to our regulars as we could while taking the opportunity to do some new things both on the menu and in design, says owner, Robert Strom. Strom says the best part of reopening has been seeing the restaurant’s regulars again and hosting people who are just discovering Prairie Moon for the first time.
