North Shore Towns Expect About 3 Inches Of Snow Before Wintry Mix
Freezing rain and icy conditions are forecast to follow Friday evening's snowfall.

North Shore communities are preparing for Friday night's snowfall to shift to freezing rain and a wintry mix after midnight, creating the potential for dangerous driving conditions during the evening commute and weekend.
A winter weather advisory was in place for Lake and Cook counties until 6 a.m. Saturday, and North Shore towns notified residents of winter parking restrictions, usually triggered by snow events of 2 inches.
Projected possible snowfall accumulations between 2.5 and 3.5 inches along Lake Michigan north of Chicago, falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour on Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service and staff from North Shore cities and villages.

The highest levels of snowfall are projected for northern Lake County, and up to about 1/10 of an inch of ice is possible for the North Shore area.

With freezing rain and sleet expected to follow the snow Saturday, authorities reminded drivers to leave extra time for travel and be aware of the potential for icy road conditions.
The state's highest levels of snow accumulation is expected in the Rockford area, according to the National Weather Service. The Springfield area should see the most accumulated ice, according to forecasts.
