NorthShore Ranked Among Nation’s Top Teaching Hospitals
NorthShore University HealthSystem is the No. 10 teaching hospital in the country, according to new Fortune/IBM Watson Health rankings.

EVANSTON, IL — NorthShore University HealthSystem has been ranked among the nation's best hospitals in the latest rankings from Fortune/IBM Watson Health.
Rankings released this week show NorthShore taking the No. 10 spot among the best teaching hospitals in the nation.
IBM Watson Health used Medicare data to compare more than 2,600 hospitals on their clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience, financial health and engagement in the community health, according to its methodology.

President and CEO J.P. Gallagher said NorthShore has received the prestigious honor more often than any other hospital or health system in the nation.
"This milestone takes on extra special meaning during an extraordinary year due to the COVID-19 pandemic," Gallagher said in a statement. "I congratulate our amazing team of physicians, nurses and the entire staff who have demonstrated courage and conviction under challenging circumstances to provide our patients and communities with the highest quality care, compassion and safety. This honor truly reflects their inspiring work ethic and dedication to the patients and communities we serve."

On a five-star scale, NorthShore received five stars for clinical outcomes, efficiency of operations and financial health, while getting four stars for patient experience.
The community health survey performance, a category added to the rankings criteria for the first time this year, is 100 percent at NorthShore, which has been in the top 100 for 22 of the 28 years of the list's history.
Gallagher said NorthShore aims to be the most trusted and indispensable health provider in every community it serves.
"Whether providing care for the medically underserved, providing women's health services, or offering specialized programs like mental health services for at-risk youth, we remain committed to establishing, cultivating and nurturing our community partnerships to serve diverse populations, and strengthen engagement and expansion of care in the process," he added.
St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was the top major teaching hospital, while Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado, is the top non-major teaching hospital.
Fortune/IBM Watson Health’s community hospital rankings were divided into large, medium and small categories.
Elmhurst Hospital in had the No. 1 ranking among large community hospitals, with Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, Ohio, taking the top spot among medium hospitals and Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital the best among small hospitals.
Additionally, Fortune/IBM Watson Health ranked the top five large, medium and small health systems in the nation.
The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, took the No. 1 spot among large health systems, the study found, while Edward-Elmhurst Health in Naperville, was No. 1 among medium hospital systems and Asante, in Medford, Oregon, was the highest ranked among small hospital systems.
