Ten Mile House Opens Next Month at Central Station

The name is a reference to Evanston's original Ten Mile House, a tavern. post office and gathering spot.

The following is from Ten Mile House:

Ten Mile House will open the first week of November in Evanston’s thriving Central Street district. The restaurant – serving thoughtful comfort food and drinks in a vibrant, welcoming setting – is located in the Central Station building and just steps from Northwestern University’s Ryan Field. Re-establishing the area’s first public gathering point, Ten Mile House champions warm hospitality and quality fare for neighbors and area visitors.

Ten Mile House serves an extensive menu featuring wood fired pizza, smoked meats and a diverse selection of comfort food classics and healthy fare. The restaurant harkens back to a simpler time and continues the tradition of hospitality of the community’s original Ten Mile House, which was founded by Major Edward H. Mulford, and served as the social and economic center of Chicago’s growing North Shore.

The 3,500 square foot restaurant includes a 110-seat dining room, 25-seat bar and 50-seat outdoor patio, open seasonally. A clean design is replete with rich maple and walnut accents, subway tile and a large open kitchen.

The restaurant will serve as a social hub for the community by offering a variety of experiences, including family-friendly dining, game day gatherings, a casual night out, and—debuting later this year—a lively weekend brunch.

Restaurateurs and native North Shore residents Robert LaPata, Joe Krouse and Fredric Gale are partners in the concept. Robert is the founder and principal of Forefront Hospitality – a restaurant consulting, hospitality and management firm located in Chicago. Joe is owner of West Town’s popular neighborhood restaurant Unite Urban Grill, and Frederic is a partner in several East Coast restaurants.
