Yakov (Yaki) Eckstein, 88 years and 362 days old. Professor Emeritus of Physics at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Visiting Professor at Northwestern University. Completed his undergraduate at the Hebrew University at Jerusalem and his PhD at The University of Chicago. He was Dean of the Physics Department and a Vice President at the Technion. A member of the Palmach, he fought for Israel's independence in 1948 when he was only 17. Beloved husband for 36 years of Ruth, loving father of Ofer (Hannah) Eckstein, Ori Zimmels and Tomer (Hadas) Zimmels. Proud grandfather of Brooke, Noah, Gaia, Ayla, Nadav, Nimrod and Noga. Dear brother of Chana Eckstein. Known by all as an intelligent, graceful, happy man who enjoyed life to its fullest and had a great sense of humor. Loved his family, loved science, hiking, good food, and classical music. A man whose generosity and love poured out of him with every smile. He will be truly missed.
