Enrollment in Forest Park Schools Expected to Continue to Drop

At a meeting on Oct. 11, District 91 discussed falling enrollment—which is projected to continue to drop over the next decade.

According to Louis Cavallo, superintendent for School District 91, enrollment rates at Forest Park schools are on the decline.

Even more, the superintendent said at a board meeting on Oct. 11, the district expects enrollment rates to continue to drop over the next decade. The decline in enrollment, could lead to staff cuts, he said.

Cavallo told board members that the declining enrollment rates were due to a lower birth rate in Cook County, and thus, fewer kids to populate the schools in Forest Park.

The district should expect to have 677 students enrolled in Forest Park schools by the 2017-18 school year, according to numbers provided to the district. That's down from around 1,000 students enrolled in the district in 2004.

Cavallo said the decline in enrollment might make it necessary to cut an eighth grade teaching position.
