Gottlieb to Host Lecture on Palliative Care, Hospice and Advanced Directives

Gottlieb Memorial Hospital will host a free lecture on palliative care, hospice and advanced directives on Thursday, February 9.

For patients and their families facing advanced or serious illness, talk of late-stage care can be confusing and scary.

Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, 675 W. North Ave., Melrose Park, will host a lecture on palliative care, hospice and advanced directives on Thursday, February 9 at noon.

Palliative care provides a holistic approach to patients suffering from serious or advanced-stage illness. Gottlieb's palliative care team includes a board certified physician in hospice and palliative care, hospitalist, nurse, case manager, physical therapist, occupational therapist, wellness therapist, chaplain and social worker.

The lecture will be presented by Wilfredo Romero, MD. Dr. Romero is medical director of Gottlieb’s palliative care program.

"Gottlieb's palliative care program provides patients and their families the chance to find healing and comfort, both body and soul, during illness," Dr. Romero said. "This lecture is an opportunity to educate the public on what palliative care offers and to make it less intimidating."

This is the third installment of Gottlieb’s Hai Solomon Community Lecture Series, founded due to a generous contribution from retired physician Hai Solomon, MD.

The lecture will be held at Gottlieb's Professional Office Building in rooms E, F, G on the lower level. The first 50 attendees will receive a boxed lunch.
