Hillside Cemetery Hosts September 9 National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children

2,033 Tiny Victims Buried at Queen of Heaven "Will Not Be Forgotten"

As the annual tribute to those lost on 9/11 draws close, Saturday, September 9, brings a different kind of memorial to Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. This Chicago area National Day of Remembrance marks the loss of the 2,033 children killed by abortion and buried at the west suburban Catholic cemetery.

Eric Scheidler, Cco-Ddirector of National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, remarked, “These babies were not the victims of a horrible terrorist attack. These children are dead by our own hand, their lives ended by a tragedy of our own making. The memorial services held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery and over 170 other locations across America on this day tell the stories of the recovery and burial of their broken and discarded little bodies. These tiny innocents will not be forgotten.”

The Fifth Annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children will be observed across America at over 50 gravesites, where tens of thousands of aborted children have been buried, and at more than 120 other memorial locations. AbortionMemorials.com lists locations by state and provides details about each site and the planned September 9 observances.

The Pro-Life Action League, of which Scheidler is eExecutive dDirector, has organized this National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, along with Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and Priests for Life. These three pro-life groups have come together to humanize the unborn victims of abortion by raising awareness of their burial places. The bodies of these now-buried children were retrieved from trash bins, landfills and other disposal sites.

“In the media and in private conversation, abortion is often viewed as strictly a political issue or a matter of personal choice. We are too late to save the almost 60 million American children who have lost their lives to abortion since 1973,” Scheidler remarked, “but we can cut through the political rhetoric and acknowledge that these children existed. We will never know their names, but we cannot forget them—nor will we ever stop fighting to restore legal protection to those unborn children now at risk of abortion.”

The first annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was held in September 2013 on the 25th anniversary of the burial of fifteen hundred abortion victims in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Now an annual event, the remembrance is now held each second Saturday in September.
