New Partnership Makes It Easy For Residents to Dispose of Unused Drugs

All expired prescription and over-the-counter medications are welcome at The Forest Park Police Department.

The Forest Park Police Department is encouraging residents to dispose of their excess and expired prescription or over-the-counter medications and bring them to the police department located at 517 Desplaines Ave, Forest Park. The new free 24-hour service is a new partnership with the Cook County Sheriff’s Prescription Drug Take Back Program and is co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, according to a village of Forest Park press release.

The staff at the police department will take the unwanted medications and safely deposit them in a secure container that was provided by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department. The village acknowledges the fact that medications should not be flushed down the toilet or thrown away to reduce the possibility of accidental overdoses and to prevent environmental hazards. The police department will not accept needles, loose and liquid pharmaceuticals. The Village of Forest Park Council unanimously approved this program at the August 8, 2016 council meeting.
