EF-1 Tornado Hit Frankfort for 9 Minutes

Cleanup under way on Saturday.


Frankfort-area residents spent Saturday cleaning up after a major storm system delivered an EF-1 tornado to the neighborhood Friday. The tornado touched down at 4:44 p.m., toppling trees, tearing off shingles and causing minor damage to 10 homes in and near the south end of Frankfort.

The National Weather Service reports that the tornado was on the ground for nine minutes, hitting an area about 2.6 miles long and 50 yards wide. Winds reached 90 miles per hour.

On June 7, 2008, an EF-2 tornado struck just a little over a mile to the south of this tornado, closer to Monee, according to the National Weather Service.
