Electricity Goes Out For Nearly 1,000 Frankfort Customers

UPDATED: The Sunday outages affected ComEd customers near L-W East High School and off LaGrange Road, south of Laraway Road.

FRANKFORT, IL — Electricity went out for nearly 1,000 Frankfort customers Sunday afternoon, according to ComEd. As of 4 p.m., service had been restored for some customers, and the power was back on by 11 p.m..

The majority of affected customers were in the area near Lincoln-Way East High School, north of Lincoln-Highway, off off LaGrange Road. A downed tree was the cause for the outage, ComEd says.

As many as 809 customers were without power in that area Sunday, July 1, according to ComEd's outage map. But by 4 p.m, that number was down to 449.

One of the businesses affected by the outage was Mariano's, near LaGrange and Lincoln Highway. The electricity went out and then back on several times before finally staying out just before 3 p.m.

At the time, customers were told by Mariano's employees that they only had about 10 minutes to pay for their items after the power went out because that was how long the batteries for the cash registers would last.

As of 7 p.m., power was restored at Mariano's and a few people were shopping.

The outage didn't affect all customers the same. While Mariano's had no electricity, the nearby traffic signal at LaGrange and Route 30 was still working.
