Frankfort Bluegrass Festival Still Popular, Still Drawing, Still Free

Fest will be held July 9–10 in downtown Frankfort.

FRANKFORT, IL — The Sixth Annual Frankfort Bluegrass Festival on the Green July 9–10 is a family friendly event featuring acclaimed national and regional bluegrass bands on two stages, complemented by a children’s tent and activities, picker's tent, workshops, food and Midwest craft beverage vendors.

One more thing to mention: Free Admission both Saturday and Sunday.

As music genres go, bluegrass’ staying power reflects its form of American roots music, its related genre of country music and influence of Appalachian music.

Bluegrass popularity today is linked to a pertinent platform that mixes early roots identified in Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English music and the later influences found in African-American music and elements of American jazz.

“While it’s difficult to identify exactly why our crowds get bigger every year, it’s evident that the same young parents who listen to Mumford & Son and The Grateful Dead are finding the inner soul of that music in our bluegrass artists,” said Steve Haberichter, one of the fest founders. “The activities for the kids and the general laid-back atmosphere make it a unique experience that can only be absorbed in person.”
