The hope was to have the garden installed in 2020 but as with other things, it was delayed a year.

With the help of many, a pollinator garden was installed at the Frankfort Park District Founders Center. The idea had been in the works for several years. The Frankfort Lions club holds their monthly meetings at the Park District’s Founders Center. As part of their community service causes, the Frankfort Lions Club was looking to serve by working on a project that would sustainably protect and restore our environment while improving the well-being of all communities. For the last couple of years, the Lions Club had Jamie Viebach, from the Conservation Foundation, speak at their club meetings. It was through information and materials shared by Jamie that the idea of installing a pollinator garden was given consideration.

The staff at the Conservation Foundation, a non-profit servicing Will County, designed the layout and selected the native plants that would be used for the garden. The hope was to have the garden installed in 2020 but as with other things, it was delayed a year. The Lions Club provided the funds to purchase the plants and assisted with the planting. The Park District provided the space, readied the site, and assisted with the planting. Boy Scout Pack #270 Bear Den helped to improve the existing butterfly houses with new paint and helped to install the plants.
Pollinator gardens support and maintain pollinators by supplying food in the form of pollen and nectar that will ensure that these important animals stay in the area to keep pollinating our crops for continued fruit and vegetable production. Best of all, pollinator gardens benefit the ecosystem.
