Frankfort Police Seeking Info About Attempted Ruse Burglary On York Town Road

A male suspect posed as a water department employee to distract a homeowner while other suspects entered the residence.

FRANKFORT, Ill. — The Frankfort Police Department is seeking any information related to an attempted ruse burglary that took place Friday, Dec. 18.

Police believe the crime took place around 2:05 p.m. in the 7300 block of York Town Road, according to a police alert issued by the department.

“In this incident, an unknown male approached a home, contacting the victim and [stating] he was from the water department,” the release stated. “The male was convincing and walked into the home. While the unknown male distracted the victim, two additional unknown males entered the home without the victim’s knowledge. The victim heard additional persons in the home and addressed them, which startled the subjects. They then left. The unknown subjects were seen entering a white minivan by a witness. No one was injured physically during this incident.”

Police provided descriptions of the subjects:

Subject No. 1 is described as “a heavy-set black male, wearing dark colored clothing, baggy pants, a black coat, gloves, a hat and a mask.”

Subject No. 2 is described as “a black male wearing a utility vest, dark hat, mask, and gloves.”

Subject No. 3 was described as “a black male wearing a cream-colored hooded sweatshirt, work boots, a dark colored hat, mask, and gloves.”

“Please remember to always verify the identity of any workers who come to your home without an appointment,” the release stated. “All legitimate workers should have credentials with them to verify their names and employment. You can call their employer’s listed phone number to verify their employment and their purpose at your residence.

“Village of Frankfort Water Department personnel do not approach residences without an appointment or initial contact by a resident. Also, water department workers drive vehicles with the easily identifiable Village of Frankfort insignia on them.

“If you are suspicious of a worker’s legitimacy, you should contact the Frankfort Police Department immediately for assistance. We continue to ask residents to call in any suspicious persons, activities, vehicles and incidents.”
