According to the sheriff's office, deputies learned that a similar vehicle had been involved in a car break-in in Mokena just before the armed robbery.
Deputies broadcast an Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network message in an attempt to find the vehicle. Soon after, Tinley Park police spotted it traveling north on Harlem Avenue and followed it, providing updates to the vehicle’s location to area departments.
According to the sheriff's office, Illinois State Police later attempted to stop the car near I-57 and I-94. The vehicle, which police said had been reported stolen from Chicago, crashed in the area of I-94 and 83rd Avenue.
