Hickory Creek Middle School Mathletes Earn Top Scores
Mathletes at Hickory Creek placed well in two recent competitions.
FRANKFORT, IL — Mathletes at Hickory Creek Middle School recently finished a strong season, participating in a mail-in competition from the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Illinois Mathematics League competition, the district said.
After tallying results of the competition, the eighth grade team ranked fourth in the state; the sixth grade team took home a fifth place win, and the seventh grade team finished sixth, the district said.
Each team had to participate in three rounds of contests, ranging from geometry to algebra.

At the Illinois Mathematics League competition, the sixth grade team took first place in the region, the seventh grade team placed in the top 10 in the state, and the eighth grade team placed second in the region. Sixth grader Jaxson Plutz was named top student in the region, and sixth grader Sam Lee placed fourth. Eighth grader David Hampton came in second in the individual ranking of students, according to the district.
