Hickory Creek Students Throw Retirement Party For Superintendent
The specialized instruction class planned 'Donuts with Dr. Zinni,' for the retiring superintendent, the district said.
FRANKFORT, IL — The students in Mrs. Covelli's specialized instruction class at Hickory Creek Middle School recently celebrated the retirement of superintendent Maura Zinni. The students planned 'Donuts with Dr. Zinni,' for the retiring superintendent, who has served the district for seven years, according to a release from the district.
In the specialized instruction multi-needs classroom, the class focuses on academics and
life skills, the district said. Planning a party is an important life skill and students worked to come up with a checklist of important items to do before the party, including designing and typing up the invitations, creating posters to decorate the room, preparing a food list, and keeping the space clean and organized.
Zinni was also presented with handmade gifts from the class, a photo of the class, a special place mat and a recipe book, the district said. The recipe book was a student-led project; the class
used the computer to research and select recipes to include in the book.
