Mokena Man Crashes Bike on Will County Trail, Dies
Vaidas Varpucanskis, 42, was not wearing a helmet when he was riding in Frankfort Township on Saturday.

A Mokena man died Saturday after falling off his bike and hitting the back of his head on a stretch of Will County Forest preserve trail in Frankfort Township, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Vaidas Varpucanskis, 42, was not wearing a helmet at the time, according to the report. Varpucanskis was pronounced dead at 11:38 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Silver Cross Hospital, the report stated, adding an autopsy will be done Monday.

The fall happened Saturday morning when Varpucanskis tried to pass a jogger on the Hickory Creek Junction trail, but then needed to swerve to avoid hitting another bicyclist coming at him, the report stated.
Varpucanskis lost consciousness when he fell and the back of his head hit the pavement, the report stated. He was given CPR by a nurse and retired police officer who saw him on the trail, the report stated. They also tried to control Varpucanskis’ bleeding before paramedics arrived, the report added.
