Poll: Should Will County Board Members be Allowed to Carry Guns in County Buildings?
Steve Balich said the proposal would save money and possibly help prevent another tragedy.

A Will County Board member has proposed allowing licensed board members to carry concealed weapons in county buildings.
Steve Balich, R-Homer Township, claimed that allowing board members to carry weapons would reduce the need for armed security, as it would be "unfair to the taxpayer to pay for sufficient armed security officers at meetings,” according to the Chicago Tribune.

He also said it could prevent another Orlando tragedy, as a gunman would spot a security guard, but wouldn’t know which board members were packing heat, according to the paper.
Democratic leader Herbert Brooks Jr., D-Joliet, was not in favor of the idea.
"After what just happened (in Orlando), I did not want to hear about guns. I was not prepared for that. We can talk about politics later on,” he said in the article.

Balich said he hopes it will be discussed at next month’s committee meeting. Guns are currently prohibited in county buildings.
