Summit Hill Runners Participate At Cross Country State Finals

FRANKFORT, IL — Three Summit Hill Junior High students participated in their first girls cross country state final Oct. 19 in Normal. Eighth graders Makayla Kelly and Mia Hedrick and seventh grader Kara Waishwell all ran in the state final after each finished in the top 10 at sectionals.

The district said all three girls showed up back in August for cross country practice, and it is the rookie season for all three runners. Although the team and the girls didn't place in the top 10, the girls posted some of their best times of the season at the state meet.

Makayla and Mia will head to Lincoln-Way East High School next year, and Kara will return to lead another season of cross country at Summit Hill.
