Trail's Edge Brewing Co. Offers Dog Menu, Cider Naming Contest

A new, temporary outdoor seating area allowed more space for dogs and owners, so the business decided to offer its Tail's Edge dog menu.

FRANKFORT, IL —With the difficulties caused by the coronavirus, businesses have gotten creative and innovative when drawing in customers. In Frankfort, Trail's Edge Brewing Co. will now offer some menu items to its four-legged customers, and is hosting its first cider naming contest.

Social Media and Public Relations Coordinator Kat Samardzija told Patch the Tail's Edge dog menu will offer meal options for dogs on a Frisbee.

A new outdoor seating area allowed more space for dogs and owners, so the business decided to offer its Tail's Edge dog menu. The menu will include shredded carrots, or a ground beef burger, a hot dog or sliced turkey; and the food will be served on a Trail's Edge Frisbee.

The restaurant, located in downtown Frankfort near the Old Plank Road Trail, often has dog walkers or runners stop in asking if dogs are allowed.

"It's another way to get new people in the door," Samardzija said.

The business did close for a few weeks back in March, but was then able to offer carry-out sales before opening outdoor seating in May and finally opening indoor seating in June.

"We were able to get the street parking right in front of the building change to outdoor seating until October," Samardzija said. "It really changed the game for us."

In addition to offering a new menu for dogs, Trail's Edge is also making its first ever cider, and took some name suggestions from customers. The naming contest for the new drink, a dry peach champagne cider, began July 21. On Thursday, the business will pick its three favorites, and customers can vote on their choice until July 25.

The winner will get a growler of the new cider.
