Unlocked Cars Easy Picking for Thieves in Frankfort
Police remind residents to lock their car doors after thieves target unlocked cars on subdivision streets.

FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort police are asking residents to lock their car doors and be alert, after a string of recent burglaries to vehicles.
The incidents have occurred in the overnight hours, in the Chelsea, Krusemark, Flagstone and Newbrook subdivisions, according to Frankfort Police Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan.
It appears the offenders are looking for unlocked cars.

"It appears that a vehicle will drop off several people who will go out and look for unlocked vehicles, grab items out of them, then quickly leave the area," police said in an alert. "None of the incidents have involved any confrontations with people and all have been property crimes only with items being stolen."
Police continue to actively work with police and area agencies to apprehend those responsible.

"The easiest way to avoid being a victim of these incidents is to lock your doors. Also remember to remove valuables from plain view, or take them in the house when possible, and please never leave your keys or key fobs in your car," police said in the alert.
Anyone who sees or hears something out of the ordinary—such as a car door shutting or dog barking at an unusual time—is urged to call Frankfort Police Department immediately at 911 (emergency) or 815-485-2500 (non-emergency).
