Coronavirus Vaccine Website Opens For Geneva Residents
Residents can visit the Kane County Health Department's website for help making appointments to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
GENEVA, IL — Geneva residents who are eligible to receive a coronavirus vaccine during Phase 1B can now find appointments through the Kane County Health Department website.
The health department recently launched a webpage that links residents to local pharmacies like CVS, Jewel-Osco and Walmart, where they sign up to receive a vaccine against the coronavirus.
Last week, Illinois entered Phase 1B of its vaccine rollout, under which 3.2 million residents in the state qualify for a vaccine. About 75,000 people in Kane County are eligible to receive a vaccine during Phase 1B, which residents over 65, educators, first responders, day care staff, factory workers and farmers, grocery store workers, public transit employees, and people in prison.

The Kane County Health Department’s webpage is meant to simplify what has become a complex process, but the department’s top official once again urged patience from residents looking to get vaccinated while acknowledging “appointments are difficult to schedule at this time.”

“The supply of vaccine is still very limited,” KCHD Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser said, adding more appointments will be open when there are more vaccines. “We appreciate the public’s patience as the vaccination drive progresses.”

The shortage has led to numerous challenges for health care providers administering vaccines and for many residents trying to get one, particularly seniors.
Phase 1A of the vaccine rollout prioritized health care workers and residents of long-term-care facilities, but local and state officials are still working out the most efficient system to register and vaccinate the large swath of people now eligible for vaccines.
Kane County Teachers To Get Coronavirus Vaccine In February
The Kane County Health Department will soon publish information on its website to help seniors through the vaccination process. The health department is also working with local libraries, senior care providers and officials from Kane County municipalities to help seniors with limited access to technology.
“We hear from a lot of adult children whose parents live in Kane County, and they say, ‘My parents are never going to figure out how to make an appointment,’” KCHD Community Health Director Michael Isaacson said. “We are partnering with local organizations so they can go some place where there’s trusted people who can help them.”
