The St. Charles deck fire still caused $10,000 damage.

A fire was spotted on the deck of a home at 522 Longmeadow Circle around 3:19 p.m. Sunday afternoon. A neighbor spotted the blaze and did what one would expect a neighbor to do - alert the family to the danger and call 9-1-1, the Daily Herald is reporting. But, this neighbor went a step further.
“The man called 911, alerted the family inside the house that they needed to evacuate and started spraying with the garden hose,” St. Charles Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet told the Daily Herald. “He was definitely a real asset here.
“He applied water to it and kept it in the general area where it was when he saw it.”
