Foster Homes Needed This Saturday 1/30!

Please help us get these deserving dogs out of the shelter!

Foster Homes Needed THIS Saturday 1/30!

It’s COLD outside…even in Tennessee! The deserving dogs listed below would love to have a warm home to hang out in while they look for their forever families. These dogs have likely never seen snow, so imagine how much fun they will have up here! We don’t have a physical location so for these pups to come to Illinois, Safe Haven needs committed foster homes.

Here are the dogs begging to come North:

Tonya - Female Mixed Breed, About 2 Years Old and 48lbs.

Tonya and her sister Tayla found themselves in the shelter in Tennessee. They don’t understand why they are there, but it sure beats being chained up (which is how their life was before). She didn’t put up any fuss when she was being tested for heartworm or when they were making her pose for pictures.

Tonya is a little shyer than her sister. She wants to show other dogs she is submissive. She licks other dog's faces and rolls over on her back at the slightest nudge. Once she establishes that she is submissive, she is great with whatever comes her way.

Since these girls have had to fend for themselves and forage for food, they will need to be fed separate from others until they learn that they will always have food.

Trit - Male Mixed Breed, About 2 Years Old

Heartworm Positive

We have been told that Trit is by far the BEST dog in the shelter. He is a big old teddy bear. He loves to focus on his person (whoever is walking him) and is eager to please. He is in heaven when he gets loved on! He has spent time playing with at young child and really enjoyed playing! When he is lucky enough to get treats, he takes them so gently!

Trit will need treatment for heartworm (which is not a threat to the dogs in your home as long as they are on heartworm preventative). He will be on an antibiotic for 30 days and then have injections. After the injections, he will need to stay calm for 30 days and then he will be adoptable. This is a treatment he needs to save his life. Are you or someone you know in the position to help this guy out?

Tayla - Female Mixed Breed, About 2 Years Old and 48lbs.

Heartworm Positive

Tayla came out of her shell quickly and didn’t put up any fuss when she was being tested for heartworm or when they were making her pose for pictures. She has met a couple of the other dogs and has done well.

Since these girls have had to fend for themselves and forage for food, they will need to be fed separate from other dogs.

While you foster, Safe Haven Dog Rescue provides a crate, food, leash, collar, and all medical care at our participating vet offices in Naperville, Wheaton, and Elmhurst. Heartworm treatment is done at Fox Valley Animal Welfare League in North Aurora. We also have a very supportive foster network to answer your questions, provide support, and guide you along the way.

Please email foster@safehavendogsil.org ASAP for more details or an application. We need committed fosters by Thursday morning 1/28 to give the shelter enough time to get the dogs a pre-travel health check.

If you are not in a position to foster, please SHARE this post. Everyone knows someone that may be willing to help. Thank you!
