Geneva Mom Speaks Out Against Arming Teachers

The local mom asked the District 304 school board a district representative should attend a state conference, vote on arming teachers.

GENEVA, IL — A Geneva mom is calling on District 304 to send a representative to an Illinois Association of School Boards conference in November to speak out against allowing school districts to arm their staff with guns, the Kane County Chronicle reports. Sara Holing addressed the local school board during its Tuesday meeting, and spoke about two resolutions that will come up for a vote at the Nov. 23 conference.

The votes, if approved, could mean teachers at school districts across the state would be able to carry weapons during the school day.

If it’s passed, the IASB would work to support and advocate for legislation which provides local school boards the option of developing safety plans which may include administrators and teachers to be trained and licensed to carry firearms in school while students are present,” Holing said.
