The Geneva High School girls varsity team won its first-ever state title this past weekend.

GENEVA, IL - History was made this past weekend when the Geneva varsity girls basketball team won its first-ever state championship in the school's history.

Geneva captured the Class 4A state title on Saturday night, winning 41-40 in a nail-biter against Edwardsville at Redbird Arena in Normal, according to the Daily Herald. The team also won by just one point in the semifinal game on Friday against Fremd.

The community welcomed the team back home on Sunday, lining the streets and cheering as the team's bus rolled through town escorted by Geneva police and fire department vehicles.
