Geneva's Great Tree Removed; New Tree Coming This Week
The Great Tree took center stage during Geneva's Christmas Walk but needed to be removed due to damage.
GENEVA, IL — Geneva's Great Tree, a 50-foot tree that has lit up the lawn at the Kane County Courthouse over the holidays since the 1980s, has been removed. The tree had been damaged and will be replaced with a new, 20-foot tree, which will be planted around 11 a.m. on Aug. 13.
Wasco Nursery and Garden Center in Campton Hills will be planting the new tree.
Several bad weather situations in late 2018 and early 2019 caused damage to the 50-foot Christmas tree that has been in Geneva since the 1980s. For safety reasons, the tree had to be removed, according to a news release from the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.

“Thanks to generous donors, we are thrilled that a new Christmas tree will soon be planted. We look forward to watching this 20 foot tree grow to be even taller than its predecessor,” said Laura Rush, Communications Manager for Geneva Chamber of Commerce.
The Great Tree was lit each year during a special ceremony at Geneva's Christmas Walk and the new tree will take its place. Chamber officials say they plan to officially light the tree for the holidays on Dec. 6.
