Just Around the Corner - First Week of October

A roundup of family-oriented events and entertainment in Geneva in the week ahead.

Just Around the Corner – First Week of October

October is one of my favorite months and Fall is one of my favorite times of the year – leaf raking not so much. Apple picking, hot cider, apple cider donuts, ghost walks, homemade soup, and all things pumpkin spice. Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park is a local favorite for apple and pumpkin picking as well as apple cider donuts. But Harner's Bakery and Restaurant in North Aurora has great apple cider donuts too if you don’t want to travel so far. And Geneva’s own Windy Acres Farm on Fabyan is running its annual Fall Festival with lots of activities for the kids through the end of October.

The Geneva History Museum is offering the first of two annual cemetery walks on Friday, October 6th. The walks take place at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM at the West Side Cemetery, the city’s oldest cemetery, on Stephens Street. The tour will provide an explanation of some of the markings on the gravestones and you’ll see where some of the earliest settlers in the area are buried. The cost is $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members. The next cemetery walk is at the Oak Hill Cemetery on Friday, October 20th.

On Saturday October 7th, the Fox River Distilling Company at 204 Dearborn Court on the East side of Geneva will host a tour and tastings fundraiser to benefit the Geneva History Museum. The event is open to persons aged 21 and over. Tickets are $10 and cocktails are available for $5. Music is provided by DJ Scott Mackay of 95.9 The River radio station.

Parents, if you need a break from the kids for a night on the town, the Geneva Park District is hosting Parents Night Out on Friday, October 6th. Children must be between the ages of 3 and 11 and must be toilet trained. Parents must be available by phone or have an emergency contact available to pick up children if necessary. The cost is $15 per child. The children will be entertained with games, crafts, movies, and snacks.
