Just Around the Corner Last Week of Summer
A roundup of family-oriented events and entertainment in Geneva in the week ahead.
Summer refuses to go quietly. After a week of gorgeous, sunny weather and temperatures more like mid-July, we head into the final week of summer. Autumn officially starts next Saturday, but we will continue experiencing summer-like weather for most of next week. It will finally begin to cool off as we head into the weekend just in time for the Geneva Park District Harvest Hustle 5K on Saturday. I’m sure the runners will be grateful for the break.
The Harvest Hustle 5K takes place on Saturday, September 22nd, at Peck Farm at 4038 Kaneville Road. The race begins at 5:30 PM and check-in starts at 4:30 PM. The race is followed by an awards ceremony and celebration until 7:30 PM. The race benefits the Geneva Park District Scholarship Fund. This will be a chip-timed race and each race bib will also have tickets for food and refreshments after the race. Awards will go to the top male and female finishers in each age bracket. Age groups include 14 and under, 15 – 19, 20 – 29, 30 – 39, 40 – 49, 50 – 59, 60 – 65, and 66 and over. I believe I’m in the “don’t bother” category.
You might want to consider sticking around after the race for an evening of star-gazing from the parking lot outside the Peck Farm Orientation Barn. The Fox Valley Astronomical Society is once again hosting the event beginning with a 30-minute presentation in the Orientation Barn at 7:00 PM. After the presentation, members will be available to answer questions and to offer the opportunity to view the night sky through telescopes provided by members. The sky viewing activity will only take place if the weather cooperates. The event is appropriate for all ages.
