KANE COUNTY, IL — Statistics released Tuesday by the Kane County Coroner’s Office show a steady decline in coronavirus-related deaths since the county’s second deadliest day May 15, when eight people died. The 7-day rolling average of daily deaths — a measure that takes into account daily fluctuations to show longer-term trends — dipped below 2 on Tuesday for the first time since April 24, the data shows. The measure reached a peak of almost 6 deaths per day in mid-May.

Thirteen Kane County residents died from coronavirus-related conditions between May 20 and May 26, down from 34 deaths the previous week and 38 deaths the week prior to that, according to the coroner’s data. Of the 13 deaths recorded over the past week, seven were Aurora residents.

According to public health data, 163 Kane County residents have died due to the coronavirus, and at least 10 others have died in Kane County hospitals, as of Wednesday. The average age of those who died in Kane County is 76 years old, with victims ranging in age from 33 to 104, the coroner's data shows.
Nearly 60 percent of all Kane County deaths have been linked to long-term-care facilities, including 24 at Bria of Geneva, 14 at Symphony of Orchard Valley and 12 at Asbury Gardens in North Aurora, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
