Kane Co. Treasurer Moves On To New Job Amid Pressure From Board
Now-former Kane Co. Treasurer David Rickert resigned Sunday, about a month after being hired as Winnebago County's chief financial officer.

KANE COUNTY, IL — David Rickert resigned his position as Kane County treasurer Sunday amid growing calls from local lawmakers for him to pick one job after recently taking a second high-profile role in Winnebago County government, according to reports.
Rickert ran in November to become Kane County’s next board chairman but fell short to Democrat Corinne Pierog. Several weeks later, Rickert was hired as chief financial officer for Winnebago County, though he still had two years left in his term as Kane County treasurer.

Rickert resigned his Kane County position at 10 p.m. Sunday, the Daily Herald reports. That move came after a bipartisan group of local officials called for him to choose one of his two jobs and stop splitting his commitment to the residents of both counties.
Rickert, the longest serving treasurer in Kane County’s history, initially signaled his intent to resign the role, but later conversations between him and Pierog made it unclear if he would leave the office.

Republican Kane County Board member Bill Lenert said last week that Rickert had an obligation to resign, “ethically or morally,” and noted Rickert was earning two large taxpayer-funded salaries.
“I’m supportive of (Rickert) either fishing or cutting bait,” Republican board member Jim Martin told the Daily Herald. “There’s got to be a choice between those two positions.”
Pierog must now appoint a new treasurer to fill the vacancy left by her former opponent for the board chairman’s seat. Statutes require Pierog to replace Rickert with another Republican, who will hold the office for the next two years.
