Kane County Gets First Doses Of Coronavirus Vaccine Wednesday
The vaccine is being distributed to give Kane County hospitals.
KANE COUNTY, IL — Five Kane County hospitals on Wednesday received shipments of the new Pfizer vaccine against the coronavirus, Kane County Connects reports.
According to the report, the vaccine was distributed to Rush Copley Medical Center and Amita Health Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and Advocate Sherman and Amita Health St. Joseph in Elgin.
As it stands, 37,126 cases of the coronavirus have been identified in Kane County. The COVID-19 virus has also claimed the lives of 504 residents.

In a news release, the Illinois health department said the first phase of vaccinations against the virus will focus on health care workers and the staff and residents of long-term care facilities. Each person who is vaccinated must receive a second dose 21 days later.
The health department said it is hopeful an increase in vaccine supply will allow all adults to be vaccinated in 2021.

Corinne Pierog, Kane County Board Madam Chairman, told Kane County Connects the rollout of the vaccine marks the beginning of the end of the pandemic.
“This is a day to reflect on the resolve of research chemists, health, logistical and public safety professionals,” Pierog said. “Due to their devotion and hard work to halt the spread of the pandemic, tomorrow will be the beginning of putting a stop to a pandemic that has inflicted significant harm to our communities and economy.”
