Most Coronavirus Cases, Deaths In Geneva Linked to Bria Outbreak
All but two of the city's coronavirus-related deaths have been linked to an outbreak at the Bria of Geneva senior living facility.
GENEVA, IL — Public health data shows a large coronavirus outbreak at Bria of Geneva has led to few infections among the rest of the community, with all but 16 cases and two deaths in the city linked to the facility.
As of Thursday, 153 Geneva residents have tested positive for the coronavirus and 29 people have died, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Residents and staff at Bria of Geneva account for about 90 percent of all coronavirus cases in the city, and 27 of the city’s 29 deaths were Bria residents, according to the IDPH’s data.

Bria of Geneva is currently facing at least six lawsuits from the families of residents who have died from the coronavirus, alleging the facility failed to test residents and follow safety guidelines.
Just 10 Geneva residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since the start of June, and none have tested positive since June 7, the data shows.
