Pick A Job: Kane County Board Tells Treasurer To Resign One Title

Kane County Treasurer David Rickert is currently collecting two six-figure, tax-funded salaries, as he is also the CFO for Winnebago County.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County Board members are calling for Treasurer David Rickert to quit one of his jobs and stop splitting his commitment to the residents of Kane and Winnebago counties.

Rickert fell short in November with his bid to become the next chairman of the Kane County Board, losing to Democrat Corinne Pierog. Rickert was hired in December to become chief financial officer for Winnebago County, though he still has two years remaining on his term as Kane County treasurer.

Rickert initially signaled he would resign his Kane County position, which would have required Pierog to fill his seat with another Republican.

But with recent conversations between Pierog and Rickert making it unclear whether he will leave the treasurer’s office, a bipartisan group of Kane County officials is urging Rickert to step down from one of his two public positions, the Daily Herald reports.

Republican Kane County Board member Bill Lenert said Rickert has an obligation “ethically or morally” to give up one of his jobs, while others have noted Rickert is earning two six-figure salaries funded by taxpayers, the report states.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has said Rickert’s two jobs in different counties do not present any legal conflicts, the Daily Herald reports.
