Residents, Staff Get Coronavirus Vaccines At Bria Of Geneva

GENEVA, IL — Residents and workers at the Bria of Geneva nursing home recently got their first shot of the coronavirus vaccine, with employees receiving a $150 bonus to get vaccinated.

BRIA Health Services has partnered with Walgreens, which is administering a federal program to provide vaccines to about 3 million residents and staff in 35,000 long-term-care facilities, according to a news release.

Geneva Moves Back To Tier 2 Coronavirus Restrictions

CEO Daniel Weiss said residents and staff receiving the vaccine is “an important milestone in our fight against COVID-19” but acknowledged the company’s 10 facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin must continue to follow strict infection-prevention measures.

Dr. David Hines, who co-chairs BRIA’s COVID-19 task force, called the vaccine “the most powerful weapon we have to put a stop to this pandemic.”

“I’m proud of all the frontline heroes who are taking this critical step to protect themselves, their patients and their families, and I hope it will inspire others to be part of the solution by getting the vaccine when it becomes available,” Hines said in the news release.

Bria of Geneva was the site of one of the deadliest outbreaks of the coronavirus pandemic in Kane County last spring, with 30 deaths linked to the facility, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
