GENEVA, IL — The Geneva Police Department is once again urging residents to lock their car doors following several car burglaries on the city’s east side. From March 3 to 4, valuables were reported missing from unlocked cars on Ridge Lane, Woodward Avenue and Dodson Street, according to a news release from the city of Geneva.
Following the recent car burglaries, the Geneva Police Department is reminding residents to lock their car doors, remove valuables from their car and report any suspicious activity to the Geneva Police Department. In addition, local authorities are highlighting the following safety tips:
- Residents should make sure their garage door is closed, windows are secured and access doors to the garage and home are locked
- Outdoor lighting may act as a deterrent in some cases since many of these car burglaries occur when it is dark outside
- The majority of car burglaries are crimes of opportunity and are preventable
