GENEVA, IL – All scheduled events for the rest of Thursday at Swedish Days, including all musical entertainment, has been cancelled due to weather, Geneva Chamber of Commerce officials said Thursday. The craft brew tent is still scheduled to open from 4 to 10 p.m. on Campbell Street west of Third Street. And businesses, restaurants and some non-profit food booths are still operating, Laura Rush, Geneva Chamber of Commerce communications manager, wrote in an e-mail just after 3 p.m. Thursday.
In addition, the Geneva Public Library's annual used book sale will take place from 5 to 9 p.m., according to city officials. Businesses, restaurants and some non-profit food booths are also still operating. Many of the sidewalk sales have been moved indoors, according to a 3:21 p.m. update from the city of Geneva.
The rain moved events earlier in the day indoors and forced fest officials to cancel other events. City officials sent out an alert just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, letting local residents know to stay tuned to see if the weather might affect today's fest.
About a half-hour later, chamber officials announced the Swedish Day carnival had been cancelled. And the library's "Fun Under Tent" event had been moved inside the library.
A little later, chamber officials cancelled concerts on the lawn during the afternoon hours and the face-painting booth.
Libido Funk Circus had been scheduled to perform on the festival's Center Stage this evening. Festival organizers say events are expected to continue as planned on Friday.
Any potential changes to Friday's schedule will be announced Friday on the chamber's Facebook page and the city's website.
