Berwyn Man Charged In Hit-And-Run That Killed Glen Ellyn Man
Luciano Pantaleon, 49, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fatal pedestrian crash.

LOMBARD, IL — A Berwyn man has been charged in the fatal Lombard-area crash that claimed the life of a Glen Ellyn man in late August. Luciano Pantaleon, 49, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the hit-and-run crash, which killed Robert Szabo, 59.
Police say that on Aug. 30, Pantaleon was driving a white Ford F-250 near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Addison Avenue when he fatally struck Szabo, who was crossing the street. Police were called to the scene just after 12:10 a.m. to find that Szabo had been critically injured by a driver who fled the scene.
According to DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, Pantaleon had stopped briefly before leaving the scene. Szabo was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

In the wake of the fatal hit-and-run, police widely shared photos of the suspected truck and driverin the hopes that someone would identify him. After an ongoing investigation, Szabo was taken into custody at his home on Dec. 4.
In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Robert Szabo. Robert’s sudden absence from their lives I’m sure has left a hole in their hearts that can never be filled. What makes this case particularly troubling is the allegations that after the crash, Mr. Pantaleon fled the scene leaving a fellow human being on the road to die. "
Pantaleon is currently being held in DuPage County Jail on $150,000 bond. He is set to appear in court again on Jan. 6.
