CCMA/MAC Celebrate Frida Kahlo's Birthday July 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Guest appearances by Miss Mexican Heritage and Mariachi Monumental De México plus face painting, printmaking workshop and more

The Cleve Carney Museum of Art (CCMA) and the McAninch Arts Center (MAC), presenters of this summer's "Frida Kahlo: Timeless" exhibition, mark the birthday of iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo with a joyous outdoor celebration 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, July 6. The event features a special appearance by Miss Mexican Heritage; members of the acclaimed Mariachi Monumental De México providing musical entertainment including a joyful rendition of “Las Mañanitas” (the traditional song sung in Mexico to honor one on their birthday); face painting; printmaking workshop conducted by Instituto Gráfico de Chicago; strolling Frida Kahlo look-alikes; vendors selling Mexican wares; fare by Santa Fe Restaurant and more.

Attendees are welcome to dress in Frida-inspired clothing, flower crowns and accessories and encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry & COD Student Fuel Pantry.

Access to the event is available with purchase of a ticket to view the “Frida Kahlo: Timeless” exhibition for July 6. In honor of Kahlo’s birthday, beginning on July 6, $10 timed tickets are being made available for entry after 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in July with code FRIDA10 (tickets subject to availability; restrictions apply). CCMA and the MAC host “Frida Kahlo: Timeless,” presented by Bank of America, now-Sept. 6 at 425 Fawell Blvd., on the campus of College of DuPage. This multi-faceted exhibition features the largest Frida Kahlo exhibition in the Chicago are in more than 40 years as well as a multimedia timeline, 100+ photographic images from the artist’s life, a children’s area, a Frida Kahlo-inspired garden designed by Ball Horticultural Company and more.
