College of DuPage May Have Awarded More Than $600,000 in Contracts Without Bids

The College of DuPage spent $630,000 in the last 4 years to pay for signage without going to bid for the jobs, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The college said it could award the projects without going to bid because those designing signage require “A high degreee of skill,” the Tribune reported.

The bids were awarded to a company owned by a member of the college’s foundation.

This is the latest in a number of issues the College of DuPage has faced in the past year.

In January, the school voted to send the community college’s president Robert Breude away with a $762,000 buyout. That was funded by taxpayers.

Then there was the business dealings at the college radio station and a move to censure a board member.

Earlier in March, it was revealed that nearly $200,000 was charged in food and liquor costs at the college’s fine dining restaurant, Waterleaf.
