Firefighters Extinguish Blaze On Pershing Avenue In Glen Ellyn
Fire officials say a young resident alerted family members to the danger after seeing smoke.
GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn fire officials say a young resident is to thank for alerting other residents to an apartment fire in the 500 block of Pershing Avenue Wednesday. The blaze broke out in a multi-unit apartment building around 2:30 p.m. and displaced multiple families.
Firefighters got to the scene to find smoke coming from the window of a second-floor apartment. It was determined that the fire was in a bedroom in that apartment and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.
Fire crews say that a young resident heard sounds and saw smoke before waking up their family members. This, and the fact that a resident closed the bedroom door and apartment door, helped keep residents safe and contained the blaze.
