Frida Kahlo-Inspired Murals, Menus, More Take Over Glen Ellyn

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn stores and restaurants will feature colorful murals, special menu items and interactive art throughout the summer to herald the opening of Frida Kahlo: Timeless. The exhibition, which boasts one of the largest collection of the iconic Mexican painter's work the Chicago area has seen in decades, runs June 5 through Sept. 6 at College of DuPage's Cleve Carney Art Gallery

Frida Kahlo-Inspired Murals and Public Art

Frida Kahlo Mural Designed By Geoff Bevington

A vibrant mural of Frida Kahlo emblazons a wall outside of Olive and Vinnie's, located at 449 N. Main St. The mural, which stands 14 feet tall and is 28 feet wide, was brought to life by Mexican-American mural artist Geoff Bevington, of Glen Ellyn.

Kids and adults alike will appreciate a mural of Frida Kahlo that's been made entirely out of candy. On display at Glen Ellyn Sweet Shoppe, 550 Crescent Blvd., the "Life Will Be Sweet" mural is composed of Chick-o-Sticks, jelly beans, licorice, gummy bears, gumdrops, candy hearts and other goodies.

Interactive Frida Kahlo Wall Art

Five locations throughout Glen Ellyn feature Frida Kahlo-themed wall art with which visitors can interact. Here's where you can find the interactive art pieces:

Stop by Chocolaterie Stam at 530 Pennsylvania Ave. to see a dazzling floral mural featuring a famous quote by Frida Kahlo.

Frida quotes can also be found at the Glen Ellyn Historical Society's History Center, located at 800 Main St. The History Center will also feature a Frida Selfie Garden, where visitors can snap a pic of themselves along cutouts inspired by Frida Kahlo.

Stroll the streets of downtown Glen Ellyn to see if you can track down all 12 Frida Kahlo-inspired flower pots that are on display. The flower pots are decorated with colorful Frida-style images and filled with bright blooms that draw inspiration from a garden that's part of Frida Kahlo: Timeless.
