Glendale Heights Officer On Leave After Arrest Video Surfaces

A video surfaced on social media showing the apparently violent arrest. Police are asking anyone else who has a video to come forward.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — A Glendale Heights police officer was placed on leave after video showing a woman's apparently violent arrest was shared on social media. The village also hired a security risk management firm to investigate the incident, according to an open letter from Glendale Heights Village President Linda Jackson.

In the letter, Jackson writes, "While the video is shocking to see, significant portions of the video are missing from the publicly available posts."Jackson added that "We must preserve the trust of our community by being as transparent as possible."

Glendale Heights police say were called to a home in the 500 block of Gregory for a domestic disturbance, according to WGN. WGN reports that the woman fought police and "bit an officer’s arm and head-butted him."

The video shows the woman being arrested and appears to show an officer punching her in the head. WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT.

The woman, identified in a GoFundMe as Tyler Russell, was hospitalized after the incident, as was the police officer, according to the GoFundMe. She was later placed under arrest. The GoFundMe was created to raise money for her bail.

Glendale Heights police are asking anyone who witnessed the arrest or may have additional videos to call Deputy Oliver at 630-909-5453.
