Thornton: I've had a passion for real estate since childhood. My dad has owned a real estate brokerage in the Detroit suburbs for 40 years so I've always been around the business. There's something about unlocking potential in a given space that hooked me. I'm constantly looking for opportunities to add value. Real estate is timeless and beautiful. There's nothing better!
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Thornton: Build relationships, provide immense value.
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Thornton: The most challenging part of being a business owner in real estate is committing to purposeful systems. It's tempting to fly around as work and opportunities arise. However, that's a short sided approach. Without solid systems in place, it would be impossible to serve clients well with consistency. Now that systems are in place, I've been freed up to do the most important thing— spend quality time with clients in the markets we serve.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Thornton: The most satisfying part of my job is hosting a client appreciation event and spending time with clients from last week, last year and five years back. I'm proud to be growing in relationship with my client base because that's most important to me. It's a people business and that's why I love it. Hold people's best interests in your highest regard and everything will work out. It's never about a deal, it's about helping a person achieve their goals.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Thornton: What makes us different is our mission and driving principle. Get to know the person, provide immense value and continue to educate and serve as time passes. Real estate is a long game and it's a powerful tool which can produce incredible wealth or simply be enjoyed.
Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
Thornton: Success= doing fulfilling work of value that I can be proud of.
